As I am now an affiliate for EkoTex yoga I decided to treat myself to their EcoYoga Jute mat. After a few weeks of using the mat indoors (I've got that 'new mat - don't want to get it sandy' thing going on for now!) I thought I'd share my experience of purchase through to the first few uses.
EkoTex are a small yoga company based Scotland with an aim to 'walk more lightly on this planet'. They focus on creating naturally beautiful, ethical and durable yoga mats and props which are designed to support yogis and help to sustain the planet. Products are organic wherever possible and free from single-use plastic. To limit their footprint, as many of their products as possible are made in the UK and Europe.
Their website is easy to navigate and purchasing was simple. Email communication about the order and delivery was efficient. The mat arrived on time in a cardboard box of just the right size and as you can see there was no single use plastic in sight. The mat came rolled with an elastic band, sturdy enough to be used again whenever you are rolling the mat up for storage. A paper product information slip was enclosed.
The EcoYoga mat has a 100% natural rubber underside and jute weave topside to create a grippy surface. If you've been coming along to online yoga on a Wednesday evening I've been using this mat when I teach this class as well as for my own personal practise for the last few weeks. I really like the feel of the top side, the texture of the jute weave gives your palms, fingers, toes and soles of the feet something to cling on to. The mat is very grippy, doesn't slip at all and is well cushioned.
The care notes that come with the mat advise that a dry dusty mat will lose grip, so I'm not sure how well it will hold up for yoga on a sandy beach but once I have tried it I will update this blog and let you know.
All in all I'm very happy with my new mat, if you fancy treating yourself use the code HAPPYSEALYOGA10 and you'll get a 10% discount at EcoTex Yoga.
