Into the Wild Day Retreat

At the beginning of June, we ventured off-grid and back to nature with our 'Into the Wild' day retreat at the beautiful Coast and Camplight glamping site. Nestled in a quiet corner of the Whitby countryside, this retreat offered more than just a break from the everyday – it gave us a deep reconnection with the earth, with ourselves and with each other.
From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was one of calm curiosity. We began the day gathered around the fire for an opening circle, setting our intentions and grounding into the present moment. The flicker of flames and gentle morning air set the tone for a day of connection, reflection, and presence.
Our first practise was a nature-inspired vinyasa yoga flow, designed to help us move like water, root like trees, and breathe like the breeze around us. With the sounds of birdsong in the background and the scent of wild grasses in the air, it was easy to drop into the rhythm of our breath and the movement of our bodies. The flow awakened our senses and helped us attune more deeply to our surroundings.
Next, we laced up our boots for a mindful nature walk around the Coast and Camplight site. As we wandered the trails, we learned about the re-wilding of the site and discovered hidden clearings and secret structures – perfect spots for short, guided mindfulness practises. Each stop brought something new: a grounding mindfulness practise in a clearing surrounded by ancient hawthorn, a breath-work meditation by a trickling stream, and moments of quiet reflection under the shade of ancient trees. This part of the retreat was a beautiful reminder of how much nature has to teach us when we slow down enough to tune into our senses.

Lunchtime brought a welcome feast: a vibrant, nourishing vegetarian lunch prepared by The Supper Club at Egton. The meal was a colourful spread of seasonal produce partly foraged from the farm, with rich flavours, and hearty portions – the kind of food that feeds not just the body, but the soul. Sharing it together added a warm, communal energy to the afternoon.

We rounded off the day with a restorative yin yoga session beneath the shelter of the 'parashala'. As the clouds began to gather and distant thunder rolled across the skies, our practise slowed to a meditative pace. We sank deeper into stillness with a final yoga Nidra – a guided rest that left us floating between wakefulness and dreams, as the soft pitter-patter of rain added to our inward journey.
As the day came to a close, the energy was soft and settled. We had stepped away from screens, from schedules, and from the usual noise – and in return, we had received a sense of peace that only nature can offer.
'Into the Wild' was more than a retreat – it was a reminder of what it means to be human, part of something larger, and held by the natural world. Thank you to everyone who joined us, to Coast and Camplight for their magical space, and to The Supper Club at Eaton for nourishing us so well.
We can’t wait to do it all again.
