Meet the Team

The majority of our classes are run by Helen but when she is away or busy with yoga day retreats the wonderful Kristina steps in to cover, you'll find Kristina covering several Sunday morning yoga by the sea classes in Scarborough throughout the summer.

Yoga Teacher & Owner

Helen Peterson

I have been practising yoga for over 20 years, I was drawn to yoga in order to improve my flexibility and more specifically to help with my surfing. Somewhere along the journey I found that as well as increasing my suppleness and strength, a calming of the mind and an inner stillness were a natural by-product of a regular yoga practice.

Inspired to deepen my knowledge and share my love of yoga with others I travelled to India - the birthplace of Yoga, where I completed my 200hr Teacher Training at Sampoorna Yoga Village in Agonda Beach, Goa, specialising in Ashtanga & Vinyasa flow yoga.

As a beach lifeguard, with 30 years experience, I have natural affinity with the coast and love to be by and on the sea, I have been a beach lifeguard trainer assessor for over ten years and am a STA level 2 open water swim coach, ISA level 1 surf coach and WSA Stand up paddle board instructor. I completed my SUP (stand up paddle board) yoga teacher training in Malta during September 2019.

I believe that as a yoga teacher you never stop learning and alongside reading as much as I can, I also regularly attend courses to further my understanding of yoga. I trained in Yin yoga with mindfulness with Paula Ahlberg of the yoga teaching academy in November 2019. During the first lockdown of 2020 I completed my children's yoga teacher training with Children's Yoga Tree. During 2022 I studied with Andrew McGonigle delving deeper into yoga anatomy. In January 2025 I completed Menoyoga® yoga for menopause teacher training with Sally Parkes Yoga School.

I have a degree in Sport & Human movement studies, have always had a fascination with the human body and how it works, I love to see the benefits of Yoga both physical and mental in my students.

I look forward to seeing you on the mat or Paddleboard!

My love of yoga began around ten years ago when I started practising yoga regularly. I realised how wonderful I felt afterwards, both physically and mentally and I was hooked!

My practice increased during lockdown and gave me the focus I needed during a very unusual time. it was during this time that I decided to take my passion for yoga further and train as a yoga teacher, completing my 200hr yoga alliance teacher training in June 2023. Yoga is a continual practice with so much to learn! I am currently studying to add an extra 300 hours to my yoga training and recently completed a certification in Yin Yoga.

My classes focus on connecting the mind and body through movement, as we focus on the breath to guide us through our flow. I like to end our practice with deep relaxation, letting stillness replace movement. this allows the mind and body to calm and fully restore, creating a moment of space in our busy lives.
